Central Christian Church is a great place to grow in our comprehension of God’s call to continually broaden our understanding of issues in our broken world. Through studying topics such as justice, prayer, dignity, Bible and Christian heritage, we are continually reminded of the scriptural call to provide a place at the table for everyone. The opportunity to be challenged by study, to dig deeper and to view our responses more broadly helps us love all God’s people more fully. We believe this deepening of the dialog is beneficial to us as individuals and this faith community as a whole. Opportunities are provided for both small group study and large group interaction on Sundays and throughout the week. Everyone is welcome regardless of experience or depth of knowledge.
Lectionary Bible Study class
Our Lectionary Bible Study class is an ongoing bible study and lectionary exploration class. This class meets from 9:00-10:00 am each Sunday morning in the conference room to discuss the scriptures to be used in worship that day. Attendance fluctuates and the class is open to all.
Sunday short-term adult studies
Sunday short-term adult studies (B) are frequently offered following our 10:30 worship exploring a wide range of topics. As a congregation that likes to eat often these classes include a carry in light lunch. These study groups range in time from one session to several weeks. In recent years topics have included: the book of Romans, generosity and giving, peacemaking, living with loss, Islam 101, Disciples history, theology and understanding God's economy. While some study topics change as interests arise. This class, when scheduled, meets Sunday at noon in the conference room.
Occasional Sunday school classes are offered as inter-generational opportunities (B) meeting at various times to include children from preschool through adult. Some classes are scheduled together at 9:00 a.m., Sunday mornings. Others [Interg Studies, right] gather after worship at noon to share a light lunch before the study begins. Our youth then break off to study the same topic using age appropriate materials in our program called Fusion: Bonding Through Faith. (B)
Our Wednesday Night Book Group, an adult learning and fellowship opportunity, meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the church parlor. The group’s membership of approximately fifteen is very fluid, most weeks numbering eight to twelve. This group is not your average book club. This group focuses primarily on the fellowship formed and sustained around the reading of written works. There is no official leader and books are chosen by the group. All are welcome.
