Wednesday Book Group
The Book Group meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (or later) in the parlor. There is no leader for the group, therefore we are very loosely organized. The group’s membership is very fluid and approximately twenty people move in and out of the group over time. The core group that can be counted on most weeks is eleven to fifteen.
The main focus of the group is reading and discussing books and on occasion we have discussed our favorite poems and songs. The group decides what books will be read and have selected quite a variety from popular fiction, The Shack, The Secret Life of Bees, etc, to others that help us “to wrestle with deep questions of faith.” The book we are currently reading is The Future of Faith by Harvey Cox. Our goal is to find a book old enough to be in paperback since books can be quite expensive. We are always looking for suggestions for our next book.
The group also acts as a fellowship group for participants. Some activities other than book discussion have been eating out, gathering in people’s homes, attending movies, plays and lectures. We have had movie nights and game night at church. We had two guests that shared their Muslim faith when we read the book The Faith Club.
We always welcome people to join us.
