Central Christian Church

Come. Let's make a world of difference.

Central is part of a local network that is part of a national organization called PICO ( http://www.piconetwork.org/ )

Over the summer, clergy and laity visited over 25 influencial service providers, policy makers, and public officials to learn about  3 system that emerged as critical to the future of Indianapolis after IndyCAN leaders visited with over 1,000 African-American, Latino, and white families, which included;

  • Opportunity System (Job Creation, Education & Training, Transportation)
  • Public Safety & Criminal Justice System
  • Housing & Health System

A few examples of what we learned:

  • IndyCAN leaders learned of an evidence-based model 'Ceasefire' that has proven to cut homicides 30-60% in cities across the country.  Indianapolis has pieces of this model, yet a decision to fund full implementation could drastically reduce violence across the city.

  • As the economy begins to recover, many families will still be locked out of jobs if the career pathways aren't created. Many hoosiers don't have the skills to compete for the jobs of the future (Healthcare & IT fields) and jobs are located far away without transportation.  This fall a proposed transit plan could create 5,000 new jobs and define access to employment for the next decade.

Marion County has been truly blessed in the past by God’s spirit. But the continuation of this blessing is conditional upon our faithful response to God’s call that we protect and provide for the needs of all families, including the least of those among us.  Join faith leaders from across Marion County to learn how we can take concrete steps to create change, and shape IndyCAN's strategy as we move toward acting together.  Training will prepare us to move from research to action.
