Position Description for External Communications Coordinator

Position summary: The part-time external communications coordinator will maintain and grow our church’s social networks in order to help demonstrate our church mission and connect the community to us and us to the community. This year-round contract position averages 8 hours per week.
Reports to: Church Administrator, and works collaboratively with volunteer Communication Team Leader.
Qualifications:
A degree in communications, marketing or a related field (also may be in of pursuit of such a degree)
Strong self-management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Basic HTML knowledge
Experience with Hootsuite, Sprout Social, or HubSpot
Knowledge of design software
Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices
Desired qualities:
Comfort and knowledge around socially progressive theological practices.
Areas of responsibility:
Create and implement monthly social media calendars
Meet with the Communication Team Lead monthly, attend staff meetings once a month; attend Communication Team meetings when called. Attend worship on Sunday as part of orientation. Additionally, orientation will include meeting various ministry team leads.
Look for opportunities to match church activities to appropriate audiences; including developing Central Christian Church’s responses to local, state and federal news.

Actively monitor and advise communication team about the church’s website
Monitor social media progress using web analytic tools
Research new media platforms, trends, and opportunities
Possibility of creating media events in conjunction with the life of the church.
Benefits and expectations: This is a year-round, contract position averaging 8 hours per week. The person hired must provide their own equipment (e.g. computer, smart phone) and graphics software.
