WHO WE ARE

At Central, we embrace each other’s differences. There are no lists of qualifications. We don’t have to know you. You don’t have to look or talk or think or be like anyone else. Here, whoever you are, you are invited. Here, you are welcome without exception.

We invite you to join us for worship and the many other events and outreach efforts we have to offer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Central all about?

We are a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We are a diverse Christian community defined by open access to Christ’s table. Central is an Open and Affirming church.

Where is Central located?

Central sits on the corner of Delaware and Fort Wayne here in Indianapolis. We have a small parking lot alongside the church off Ft. Wayne and a larger parking lot across Ft. Wayne between Ft. Wayne, Delaware, and St. Clair. There is also abundant street parking. Our Contact page has a map.

What door should I go in?

The doors to the building are marked with numbers. Door 1 is closest to the parking lot and when you enter you will go up a staircase and down a hallway to get to the sanctuary. Door 2 is tucked in the courtyard and is the entrance with elevator access. Doors 3, 4 and 5 all allow you to enter various points at the back of the sanctuary.

How will I find my way once I’m in the building?

Our church, like many old buildings, has many hallways and staircases. Signs are posted throughout the building and greeters are at many of our doors. Please feel free to ask for help.

Accessibility

Despite the age of our building, we strive to remove as many barriers as possible to make Central accessible. From our elevator, to the Sanctuary, to hearing assistance, to gluten-free communion bread, we desire to have all of God's children join with us in worship. We offer large print bulletins and hymnals, and service animals are welcome.

What do we believe?

We believe in open communion, freedom of belief, baptism by immersion and the understanding that in our diversity we are the church and are all ministers to the world. Communion is celebrated each Sunday and all are welcome at God’s table. For our mission statement, click here.

What should I know about worship at Central?

Our mostly-traditional worship service begins at 10:30 A.M. in the Sanctuary. The worship experience includes prayers, readings and music (including our Chancel Choir, on most Sundays) that guide us alongside a relevant sermon and the celebration of communion weekly.

All children beyond Nursery level are invited to worship with their parents for about the first 15 minutes of the service, then may participate in a separate children's worship activity (Worship and Wonder or Young Disciples).

Adult Studies

Learning opportunities for adults are provided in both small group study and large group interaction on Sundays and throughout the week. Through studying topics such as justice, prayer, dignity, Bible and Christian heritage, we are continually reminded of the scriptural call to provide a place at the table for everyone.

Children and Youth Education

Central has a variety of programs for every age, from a nursery and children's Worship and Wonder, to Young Disciples, Exploring Faith, and Vacation Bible School. See Children and Youth page for more information.

What about Music at Central?

Music is an important part of life at Central, especially in worship. Opportunities vary from Chancel Choir, instrumental music and Bell Choir, to occasional guest performances and special concerts.

We look forward to your visit!
